A step-by-step guide on how to set up and calibrate your Redbird Alloy YK1 and Alloy YK2 home flight simulator yokes for MSFS 2024
*** IMPORTANT ***
It is necessary to calibrate the yoke in Windows before starting MS2024. Failing to do so can cause MS2024 to fail to recognize the controller or control axe when attempting to map the controller.
Calibrating the YK1 and YK2
Before launching MS2024, the Alloy yoke controllers must first be calibrated in Windows. For detailed instructions on calibrating the Redbird Alloy YK1 and YK2 yokes, please refer to YK1 Yoke Calibration Guide (https://support.redbirdflight.com/yk1-yoke-calibration-guide).
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Accessing the Settings/Controls Menu
With Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 open, navigate to Settings and select Controls. Or, if you've already begun a flight, press the Escape key on your keyboard and select Controls.
Alloy YK1 and YK2 Yokes
From the Controls menu, select the appropriate device (YK1 HS or Alloy YK2) from the Devices List on the left and click Flight Control Surfaces under Categories.
Select Primary Control Surfaces.
Aileron Axis Mapping
Left-click the field next to AILERON AXIS. When the field displays SCANNING..., roll the yoke controller to the left and right. Confirm JOYSTICK LAXIS X is assigned to the AILERON AXIS.
Elevator Axis Mapping
Left-click the field next to ELEVATOR AXIS. When the field displays SCANNING..., push and pull the yoke controller back and forth. Confirm JOYSTICK LAXIS Y is assigned to the ELEVATOR AXIS.
Button, Hat Switch, and Toggle Mapping
The additional buttons, HAT switch, and toggle switch on the Alloy Yk1 can also be mapped to other controls in MS2024. The easiest way to find the control to map is to use the Search by input option.
To map Button 1 on the YK1 to the Display ATC control in MS2024, simply type "atc" into the search field and locate DISPLAY ATC. Using the same method for assigning a controller input to the aileron and elevator axis (see above), press Button 1 on the YK1 during the SCANNING... process to assign it to the DISPLAY ATC command.
Repeat this process to map the remaining buttons and toggle.
This is our mapping recommendation for the YK1.
Button 1: Display ATC
Button 2: Set Autopilot Disengage
Button 3: Elevator Trim Down (Nose Down)
Button 4: Elevator Trim Up (Nose Up)
Button 5*: Cockpit Look Down
Button 6*: Cockpit Look Right
Button 7*: Cockpit Look Up
Button 8*: Cockpit Look Left
Button 9*: Reset Cockpit View
*Note: Buttons 5-9 are unavailable on Generation 1 YK1 Yokes.
