Creating Scenarios on Redbird Training Devices

How to create scenarios and save flights on Redbird training devices.

Creating scenarios customized to the area you fly in (or the curriculum you use) and saving your flights can be a powerful training tool and make your Redbird training device more user-friendly.

For example, you can save flights set up in the practice area at your local airport or on final for specific approaches into it. You also can build in programmed failures or configure the system to initiate failures at a specific time after the flight loads (such as an engine failure close to takeoff).

There are a few possible ways to create and save scenarios on a Redbird training device.

Saving flights using the Instructor Station app

To save a new flight, start a flight with the location, time, and weather variables set however you wish. Once the flight has loaded, you may save the flight before unpausing it, or you may unpause the flight and fly the airplane until you have it in the situation and/or location at which you wish to save the flight. In either case, once you are ready to save your flight, it is easiest (though not necessary) to pause the flight and follow these steps:

  1. Use Navigator to open the Instructor Station app on your device.

Instructor Station icon in Redbird Navigator
  2. From the Map view in Instructor Station, open up the pop-up menu by selecting the "+" in the lower right corner of the map.
    View Map menu icon
  3. The map pop-up menu should appear; then select the Save Flight icon.

    Save Flight icon highlighted
  4. The Save Flight dialog should appear.

    Save Flight fields
Enter the flight title in the Flight Title textbox and the flight description in the Flight Description text box.

  5. Click the Save Flight button. After your flight saves, you can access it in Dispatch (see Navigator User Guide).

Now, when you select this saved flight, your simulator will load the flight at the
point at which you saved it, in exactly the same conditions and location. To delete the flight, click the three vertical dots icon on the saved flight and select DELETE SCENARIO.

Saving Flights using the Prepar3D menu

To save a flight, start a Free Flight with the location, time, and weather variables set however you wish.

  1. Press and briefly hold the ALT key on your keyboard until menu options
appear at the top of your central screen. Move the cursor to “Scenario”
and click on it, then select “Save…”

Navigating to Scenario > Save in the Prepar3D menu during a free flight
  2. Type a File Name, Title, and Description into the fields shown below,
    then click OK.

  3. You can find your saved flight in Dispatch (see Navigator User Guide).

Now, when you select this saved flight, your simulator will load the flight at the
point at which you saved it, in exactly the same conditions and location. To delete the flight, click the three vertical dots icon on the saved flight and select DELETE SCENARIO.
